Salvinia Live Floating Plant
Add a natural touch to your aquarium with Salvinia, a floating aquatic fern that provides shade and cover for shrimp and small fish. Its soft green leaves float across the water’s surface, creating a natural environment while its dangling roots offer additional grazing areas for shrimp and young shrimplets.
🌿 Plant Care & Requirements
- Care Level: Easy
- Placement: Floating plant; no substrate required
- Lighting: Low to high light. Moderate lighting is a good starting point for healthy growth.
- Water Temperature: 65–82°F (18–28°C)
- pH Range: Approximately 5.0–8.0
- Water Flow: Low flow. Strong currents and splashing can damage leaves and push plants underwater.
- Nutrients: Absorbs nutrients directly from the water. Adequate nutrients support healthy green growth.
- CO₂: Not required
- Propagation: Spreads naturally by producing new growth along its stems.
🌱 Maintenance Tips
Salvinia grows quickly under suitable conditions, so remove excess growth regularly to prevent it from covering the entire surface. Keep leaves away from splashing filter outlets, and leave open areas for gas exchange and light to reach plants below.
⚠️ Important Note
Salvinia can spread rapidly under favorable conditions. Keep it contained in your aquarium and never release it into natural waterways. Check local regulations, as some Salvinia species are considered invasive in certain areas.
